Emails from Cameron, May 20, 2008

Excerpts from this weeks email:

We teach about 15 full lessons a week right now, and we make tons of contacts. On the street we teach mini lessons a lot, things will increase once I get the language down. I see the Zone Leader's and the Assistant's to the President pretty frequently because my companion is the district leader, we have district meetings every week, and then each month we have zone conferences with the Mission President. We had one my first week here... I didn´t understand a lot, but other Americans helped me. I love the other missionaries in my zone, they are all really helpful and hard workers.

Well, there is this one family we are teaching, and they don´t really have a lot, but they seem happy, people here are really laid back, and it is really hard to get them to keep commitments, because they just like to chill. But I think we will be able to make some progress, they realize how important this is to us when they see how disappointed we are that they did not do what we asked them to do.

(We asked Cameron if there was a river near his apartment because we looked on Google Earth and it looked like there was a river nearby.)

Yeah there is a river. It is smelly and full of garbage though. So it is not much to look at sadly. I would love it if it had fish, but my companion told me I would be stripped of flesh if I swam in there! haha.

Hey! I just remembered a story. Okay we were out clapping at doors, (That's what we do instead of knocking) and I gave a message and asked if we could come in, and the father asked if I spoke English. I said yes, and he told me that his 14 year old daughter lived there (in America) for 3 years, so I spoke to her, and it was kind of a cool way to get my foot in the door. We haven´t gone back yet but we will. People are really interested when they find out I am here from America for 2 years. It is a great opportunity to teach. This one catholic Grandma kissed me on the forehead after a prayer one time...

Thanks for the tip about Google Earth. It was neat to see the area where he is...didn't look too different than over here. :) We just found some "sugar" candy that must have dropped out of the package we sent to him...hopefully everything else gets there okay!
